Washington State transfer Cedric Coward cuts list to Alabama, Duke

Washington State’s Cedric Coward is one of the best players left in the NCAA Transfer Portal. Now, after cutting down to his list to five a week ago, he’s now down to two options to transfer to.
Per his representation speaking with Jon Rothstein at CBS Sports, Coward is down to Alabama and Duke. That said, his focus remains on the 2025 NBA Draft with the Crimson Tide and Blue Devils being his choices if he were to come back to college basketball next season.
“Washington State transfer Cedric Coward has cut his list to Alabama and Duke, per his agent Todd Ramasar of @LifeSportsAgncy,” Rothstein tweeted on Tuesday. “Coward’s primary focus is still on the NBA Draft after he picks a school.”
Coward was previously down to Alabama and Duke as well as Florida, Kansas, and Washington. Now, despite his continued focus on going pro, he’ll either be in Tuscaloosa or Durham next year if he does play in that final year of collegiate eligibility.
Coward is coming off his lone season at Wazzu following two seasons at Eastern Washington and one at Willamette University in Division III. Coward has, over that collegiate career, averaged 15 points (60.3% FG, 40.8% 3PT), 7.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game. He was a unanimous selection as All-Big Sky First Team in his final year with the Eagles at 15.4 points (56.5% FG, 38.3% 3PT), 6.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Then, after transferring to the Cougars, he posted 17.7 points (55.7% FG, 40% 3PT), 7.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 blocks in six games before a season-ending shoulder injury in December.

With that, Coward, per the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Player, is the No. 21 transfer and the No. 8 SG. At this point of the cycle this offseason, he is the No. 5 transfer still available and the No. 3 SG still on the board.
Alabama and Duke have been two of the best programs in the sport as of late with one being a new blood while the other is a blue blood. Both project to continue to be next season with one, assuming he comes back to college, set to add Coward to their roster for ’25-’26.
