Just a few years ago, Flau’jae Johnson and Angel Reese were tearing through college basketball together. LSU went on to win a national championship, the first in program history. But since then, the two have gone their separate ways and do not appear to be too close.

Johnson recently admitted she is not friends with Reese. There is still a respect between the two, at least from Johnson’s end. She supports Reese from afar during her journey in the WNBA, even going to bat for the Chicago Sky star on social media when needed.

“We’re not friends but that bond that we had and that thing we did together, win a national championship, you can never take that away from us,” Johnson said. “Sometimes, stuff happens. You wish it don’t happen but it do. You just got to grow. I support her in everything she do, she’s killing it in the WNBA. I’ll be on social media clowning the folks trying to talk down on her. I’m just proud of her. But you know, stuff happens.”

Reese spent another season at LSU in 2023-2024 before making her way to the WNBA. Johnson could have left Baton Rouge to kickstart her professional career. Instead, she opted to play another year for head coach Kim Mulkey and attempt to win a second title with the Tigers.

Similar comments on the two’s relationship came from Reese on her own podcast in the fall. A lot of what Johnson said was the sentiment Reese put forward about not being as close anymore.

“I still support Flau’jae,” Reese said back in September. “We aren’t as close as we used to be. There are no hard feelings or anything but we aren’t as close as we used to be. That’s why people are always expecting us to still be posting each other and stuff like that. But we aren’t as close. I mean, it happens. You don’t have the best relationships with everybody always. I wish her the best always, and I’m always going to support her.”

Reese is still a big supporter of LSU, attempting to get down to a game when she can. Johnson will headline the 2025-2026 squad, potentially positioning them for some kind of reunion. Or who knows? Maybe the Chicago Sky will be in a position to draft Johnson and bring the duo back together on the court in an attempt to recreate the 2022-2023 LSU magic.
